Breckenridge Winter Event Schedule

Celebrating winter in Breckenridge is a community-wide effort. Events and festivals receive foundational support from the Town, while Breck Create adds complementary arts and cultural programming. Locals pitch in as volunteers and, of course, help spread cheer. With the exception of a few ticketed programs and classes that require registration, most winter events in Breckenridge are free to attend. Add an entirely walkable downtown and free local transportation, and you’re guaranteed a good time.

International Snow Sculpture Championships

January 24th – February 3rd • Riverwalk Center

Last—but certainly not least —is arguably the most beloved annual event in Breckenridge, the International Snow Sculpture Championships (ISSC). Sixteen teams from around the world spend a grueling four days hand carving 25-ton, 12-foot tall blocks of ice into extraordinary works of art. Breck Create helps manage the event and provides operational support.

How to View the Snow Sculptures

Sculpting Week happens January 24th through January 28th. It’s a wonderful time to check out the competition—there are fewer crowds, and it’s amazing to see these teams at work. Viewing Week takes place January 28th through February 3rd.

Pro tip: plan to visit the snow sculptures during the day and also after dark for the Evening Grand Illumination from 4:30 until 10 p.m. each night of the competition.

2026 Teams

Each June, 250 invitations are sent to teams worldwide. Submissions are reviewed in August and finalists selected. The 2026 teams are:

  • Argentina

  • Germany

  • Finland

  • Italy

  • Lithuania

  • Malta

  • Mongolia

  • South Korea

  • Ukraine

  • USA Breckenridge

  • USA Vermont

The Breckenridge community rallies around this event, making artists feel like family. Volunteers serve as interpreters, guides, and coffee runners for the hardworking teams. Breckenridge’s reputation as a host town is well-earned.
