ABOUT THE PROGRAM
“Scenes from the City” captures the pulse of urban life, where ambition and restless energy collide in a vivid portrait of modern America. Bernstein’s On the Town bursts with Broadway swagger and jazzy syncopation, tracing the adventures of three sailors on a whirlwind leave in New York City. John Adams’ Frenzy channels the kinetic momentum of a metropolis in motion, its propulsive patterns and bright orchestration evoking crowded streets and flashing lights. Gershwin’s An American in Paris rounds out the evening, blending brash city rhythms with lyrical nostalgia in a soundscape that feels cosmopolitan, exuberant, and unmistakably American.
