The 2026 Cultural Bucket List

10 Must-Do Arts Experiences in Breck

Breckenridge has become pretty well known for snowcapped peaks, but did you know that the true heartbeat of the community is in our year-round creative district?

Over the past several years, the local arts scene in Breckenridge has gone from hidden secret to national destination.

The Town welcomes renowned artists to the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (BIFA), directors and filmmakers to the Breck Film Festival, and other travelers looking to uncover the secrets of Isak Heartstone (just to name a few!)

Breck has become a place you have to visit to truly understand – and lucky for you, we’ve put together the full guide to your 2026 Breck culture bucketlist! These are our must-see spots and events you will want to add to your calendar this year.

1. The Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (BIFA)

BIFA is one of Breck’s flagship summer events. The festival draws thousands of visitors annually to experience art, adventure, creativity, nature, and play.”

Across a four-day celebration August 20-23, Breckenridge open spaces and the charming historic Arts District turn into a living canvas of large-scale immersive art, music, and performance.

In 2026, the fun continues! Outdoor art installations will awe and inspire. We’ll see plenty of live music, yoga sessions along the Blue River, and craft workshops on the Ridge Street Arts Square. BIFA has something for everyone in the family to enjoy, and each year brings something new– it will likely become an event you’ll want to return to in the years ahead.

2. Riverwalk Center Performances

The 750-seat Riverwalk Center anchors Breckenridge’s year-round performing arts calendar, hosting everything from concerts and theater to dance, lectures, and family-friendly shows. The venue programs seasonally – winter performances typically run from December through March, with summer programming from June through October.

Summer 2026 brings the National Repertory Orchestra back to the Riverwalk stage, and you can catch some of the best symphonic performances in Colorado. Fall brings in the Breck Film Festival (more on that below). It’s a year-round destination, so you’ll find something no matter when you visit Breck.

In collaboration with local businesses, Breck Create is launching a three-year Popular Music + Entertainment initiative (2026–2028) to bring more live music, energy, and connection back to downtown Breckenridge.

Music is a proven driver of downtown vibrancy, visitor engagement, and local economic impact. This initiative supports a strong mix of free community concerts and ticketed performances at the Riverwalk Center and in the Arts District—beginning in summer 2026 and continuing year-round through 2028.

The goal is to revive an authentic Breckenridge “party” vibe that resonates with residents, attracts Gen Z and Millennial visitors, and supports local businesses—while creating shared experiences that make downtown memorable beyond peak holidays.

This is a community-powered effort, built through shared investment from local businesses and public partners. Early leadership support has already been committed by lodging, retail, and restaurant partners, and Breck Create is serving as the lead organizer and promoter—assuming the financial risk to deliver high-quality programming.

3. The 46th Annual Breck Film Festival

Mark your calendars for September 17–20, 2026. The Breck Film Festival returns for its 46th year, and we’re expecting the event to be bigger and better than ever.

Breck Film Festival’s 2026 event will feature screenings across the Riverwalk Center, Eclipse Theater, and Backstage Theatre. You’ll have opportunities to connect directly with filmmakers and attend Q&A sessions where you’ll learn more about the filmmaking process and get some behind-the-scenes experiences.

But our favorite part of the Breck Film Festival? You get to experience the kind of community energy that makes Breck (and Colorado as a whole) so much fun to live in!

4. Interactive Workshops at the Arts District

Are you someone who wants to do more than watch? Then make sure you sign up for one of  Breck Create’s workshops and classes! These annual workshops and classes give you hands-on experience across a variety of mediums and styles.

The 2026 calendar is already packed with sessions that let you tap into your artistic side.

Here are just a few of the many 2026 options you can book:

  • 3D Pen Art – Multiple January and winter evening sessions where you’ll use PLA-based 3D pens to “draw” colorful sculptural forms. All materials included, ages 17+.

  • Expressive Drawing – Recurring Thursday evening classes (dates in March and April) blending realistic subjects with abstract mark-making techniques.

  • Trucker Hat + Sticker Design – Social, bilingual workshops where you design your own wearable art. All materials included.

  • Ceramic Open Studio – Drop-in sessions running throughout the year for those who want to get their hands in clay.

The Breck Create workshops consistently attract visitors seeking Breckenridge activities beyond the typical outdoor adventures. They’re the perfect way to get creative and enjoy the city (and you’ll probably make a few friends along the way!)

5. Winter Exhibitions at the Arts District

We like to say that “Art doesn’t hibernate in Breckenridge!” Head down to the Breck Arts District to catch some of the newest winter exhibitions from impressive artists and creatives.

The 2026 winter season kicks off with “Jodi Stuart: Second Life,” running January 24 through March 29 at Old Masonic Hall in Arts District campus.

If you want to learn more and see what’s coming up in the months ahead, check out more in person at 136 S. Main Street or visit Breck Create online to see the latest updates.

6. International Snow Sculpture Championships

Want the true insider Breck experience? Few events can capture the magic of a Breckenridge winter like watching artists transform 20-ton blocks of snow into the biggest sculptures you’ve ever seen!

The Breckenridge Tourism Office (BTO) plays host to the International Snow Sculpture Championships, and it’s still one of the town’s marquee winter events.

This is one of those key bucket-list experiences for anyone visiting during the colder months.

7. Meet Isak Heartstone, the Breckenridge Troll

While you’re enjoying the massive ice sculptures, why not visit another one of Breck’s “you have to see it to believe it” spots?

Isak Heartstone, the 15-foot wooden troll created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, is one of Breck’s most infamous residents. This bucket list spot sits along the Trollstigen Trail near Illinois Creek.

Built from reclaimed wood and recycled materials, Isak reminds visitors to be kind to nature. It makes for an unforgettable photo opportunity any time of year.

8. Ullr Fest and Seasonal Celebrations

If you need any proof that Breckenridge knows how to throw a party, then make sure to stop by Ullr Fest, hosted by the Breckenridge Tourism Office.

Ullr Fest is the town’s legendary celebration of the Norse god of snow, and this celebration of all things winter. Plus, you can take part in the annual attempt at the (unofficial) world record for longest Shotski®.

But it’s not all winter in Breck. Summer brings the Breckenridge Beer Festival, as well as numerous wine events and arts festivals woven throughout the Breck Create programming.

9. The Precious Plastic Workspace

Sustainability meets creativity at Breck Create’s Precious Plastic Workspace. Breckenridge is proud to play a part in a worldwide initiative to reduce plastic waste through art.

Community members and visitors can transform plastic waste into functional and beautiful creations. It’s an incredibly unique hands-on experience that aligns with Breckenridge’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

10. Simply Wander the Arts District

Sometimes the best Breckenridge activities are those that pop up unplanned. All across the Arts District campus and Riverwalk Center area, you’ll find spots where creativity can show up unexpectedly.

Most of the surrounding galleries are all clustered within easy walking distance of Main Street lodging. Simply park once and wander around! You’ll discover public art installations, pop-up performances, and much more around nearly every corner.
