Close Act Theatre’s Blue Birds
Like in a trance these sheer size BLUE BIRDS are wandering around. From high above these longnecks are watching down at you. There is no way you will miss them when they start marching into the crowd. Their approach is friendly and prudent, but they surely are curious. Their long, long fingers are ticklish and their tall heads keep on nodding. Suddenly, they freeze to a halt and tracking their leader’s calls then proceed in a stunning slow motion.
Since 1991, Close-Act Theatre from The Netherlands (founded by Hesther Melief and Tonny Aerts), has specialized in large-scale, interactive street theater for everyone. The company’s unique form of elevated performance is performed in, between, and above the public. Close-Act’s creations have been performed around the globe. In the United States, the company has been presented by the San Diego Without Walls Festival; Duke Arts; and Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City festival, among others.
