THE LOOOONG FALL
THE LOOOONG FALL: An Unabridged Reading of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll Spoken Aloud On Stage by Several People Who Happen To Be Actors but This Isn’t a Play It’s a Book No Really We Promise It’s Not a Play It’s the Book The Whole Book
In the first sentence of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the titular character wonders, ‘“And what is the use of a book, without pictures or conversations?”
This original premiere performance created and directed by Aileen Wen McGroddy seeks to ask that question in real time, out loud, together. Inspired by the verbatim theatre practices of the seminal theatre company Elevator Repair Service, this is a full-text, unedited read of the novel that many of us have met primarily in adapted forms. Here, we’ll gather to meet the words and let them work their magic, the hallucinatory drug of storytelling. With tea and snacks and a flexible, interactive environment, this ensemble-based show will begin to bloom with live theatricality as we go deeper down the rabbit hole.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
This is a full, unedited reading of the novel and will run approximately 3.5 hours. The performance takes place in an intimate, flexible environment, with just 50 audience members seated onstage alongside the actors. You are welcome to move in and out of the theater throughout the performance to use the restroom, grab a drink or snack, or simply take a break. Come prepared to settle in, get comfortable, and experience the story unfolding up close and in real time.
