Spring Break for Art Lovers: What are the Best Family-Friendly Creative Activities in Breckenridge?

Family Friendly Activities in Breck

If you ask someone what they think of when you say Breckenridge,” chances are they’ll tell you “skiing.” But Spring break in Breck has quietly become a destination for families and those looking for creative inspiration.

When the snow starts to taper, the Arts District comes alive, and it’s packed with tons to do and see: workshops, free events, gallery openings, and plenty of hands-on experiences designed for people of all ages and creativity levels.

Best of all? Breck Create’s Arts District campus is right here — three blocks off Main Street — waiting to become your creative home base for the week!

Why Visit Breck in April?

Shoulder season in Breckenridge is highly underrated. You get longer days and fewer crowds, and you can get into many events and activities that often sell out during peak season.

The Breck Create campus still stays busy in April, and you can take part! There are ceramics studios, the Hot Shop for glassblowing, the Fuqua Livery Stable for mixed media and metalwork, and the Randall Barn for textiles and painting.

Most Breck Create classes run $15–$75 per person, and members can take 25% off every class. That makes a spring break membership one of the smartest moves you can make. Plus, it’s walkable – making it easily accessible to most families.

If this is your first visit, no worries: everything on this list is open to anyone, locals and visitors alike. Let’s look at what’s coming up!

April Hands-On Workshops for Families

For the Little Ones (Toddler Play + Art)

Saturdays in April, the Quandary Antiques Cabin hosts Toddler Play + Art. This is a gentle, hands-on creative-play session built for the youngest artists in your crew.

Activities are low-pressure and sensory-rich, making it easy to get kiddos into the creative spirit during spring break. It’s a great morning activity before heading out for a trail walk or lunch on Main Street.

For School-Age Kids (Cardboard Worlds + Art After School)

On Sunday, April 12, Cardboard Worlds for Youth is inviting school-age kids to come and build imaginative 3D environments out of cardboard! This event is part architecture, part sculpture, and 100% pure play.

Art After School (Wednesdays, 3:30 PM) is another way to get involved. This is a great way to meet locals and enjoy a structured afternoon creative session.

For Older Kids and Adults (Glassblowing + Stained Glass)

Beginner Glassblowing runs Thursday evenings in April at the Hot Shop. This is an unforgettable experience for kids and adults alike. Glassblowing is a bit more complicated, but led by experts. You’ll want to book early; these spots go fast.

If you want a two-session experience that creates something fun and “take-home-able”, the Mountain Suncatcher Workshop: Intro to Stained Glass runs Friday–Saturday, April 3–4, at the Hot Shop.

Your Breck Create Pro Tip: Glassblowing and stained-glass workshops are among our most in-demand spring sessions! If one of these is on your spring break list, reserve your spot before you land in Breckenridge. Book online today!

For the Tech-Curious (3D Pen Art)

Come out on Tuesday, April 7, for 3D Pen Art. This one’s a see-it-to-believe-it kind of event. Kids will learn how to draw in three dimensions using specialized pens that let their creations literally rise off the page.

This one’s a major hit with kids who love building and tech!

Creative Mending: Kintsugi and Sashiko

Two of our spring favorites carry an unexpected theme: the art of repairing things beautifully.

Kintsugi: Golden Mending (Friday, April 10 at the Ceramics Studio) teaches the ancient Japanese practice of fixing broken ceramics with gold. It’s both creative and philosophical – showing how something broken can be remade into a piece far more beautiful than it was before.

Sashiko Mending on April 7 brings Japanese textile embroidery to the Randall Barn. Both classes are offered in English and Spanish, and both are the kind of experience that stays with you long after spring break ends.

Free + Low-Cost: Art Without a Price Tag

Not every spring break memory needs to involve a registration form. Breck Create has a strong lineup of free programming in April that families can walk right into.

The Exhibition Opening on April 11 is one to add to your list. This free gallery reception showcases work made right here on the Arts District campus by instructors, staff, and students.

When in Town, Don’t Miss The Breckenridge Troll!

Here’s another can’t-miss thing to do on Spring break in Breckenridge: a visit to Isak Heartstone

This 15-foot wooden troll was built from recycled materials by Danish artist Thomas Dambo for the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (BIFA).

Now, Isak Heartstone lives along the Trollstigen Trail near Illinois Creek, a short 15-minute walk from the Welcome Center on a fully accessible path.

The troll is free, year-round, and endlessly photogenic. Build a morning around it: trail walk to the troll, then a workshop back in the Arts District!
