Redesign Upcycled Plastic Lamps
Inspired by our February Artist in Residence, Thing Thing, a Detroit based experimental design collective. This hands-on class invites students to explore sustainability, design, and material transformation through recycled plastic processed through the Precious Plastic system.
Students will be introduced to the basics of plastic reuse, including sorting, shredding, and molding, before moving into the featured project, a lamp. This open-ended project encourages experimentation and personal expression, allowing students to design and fabricate a lamp using reclaimed plastic while responding to prompts around form, function, and reuse.
Throughout the class, participants will explore ideas of circular design, material responsibility, and creative problem-solving in a supportive studio environment. Perfect for curious makers interested in art, design, and environmental impact. No prior experience is necessary.
