Abstract Upcycled Art
As part of our Precious Plastic Re-maker’s Lab this class will turn discarded materials into bold, expressive works of abstract art in this hands-on upcycling class.
Students will explore how everyday plastic waste (especially recycled plastic lids) can be transformed into dynamic compositions using our sheet press. Participants will experiment with arranging, layering, and pressing plastic lids into flattened sheets, discovering how color, transparency, texture, and pressure affect the final result. These pressed sheets become the foundation for abstract artworks that emphasize pattern, movement, and form.
Throughout the process, students will learn safe material-handling techniques, develop an intuitive approach to abstraction, and explore how industrial-style tools like a sheet press can be used creatively. The class highlights sustainability, reuse, and creative problem-solving while encouraging experimentation and personal expression. Perfect for curious makers who love to experiment and push materials in unexpected directions. No prior experience is necessary.
