Clay Hand Building - Going BIG!
Ready to break free from the constraints of the mug and scale up your pottery practice? If you’ve got the basics of clay down but find yourself hitting a wall when trying to build taller, wider, or more ambitious forms, this is the class for you.
In this workshop, we’ll demystify the art of large scale ceramics. Building big requires a mix of patience, engineering, and a shift in how you think about clay’s structural integrity. You will learn how to construct vessels like statement vases, large planters, or sculptural centerpieces—without them collapsing under their own weight. This class is intended to jump start a larger piece and give you the confidence to continue independently.
Prerequisite: Previous hand-building experience (such as our Beginner Hand-building classes or equivalent).
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE REGISTERING
Ceramics is a multi step process that takes many weeks for a completed glazed project. Kiln firings occur when there is enough work to fill the kiln. For ceramic glazing instructions and techniques, please consider taking the Ceramics Glazing Class to complete your project.
