Monty Python and the Holy Grail
A comedic send-up of the grim circumstances of the Middle Ages as told through the story of King Arthur and framed by a modern-day murder investigation. When the mythical king of the Britons leads his knights on a quest for the Holy Grail, they face a wide array of horrors, including a persistent Black Knight, a three-headed giant, a cadre of shrubbery-challenged knights, the perilous Castle Anthrax, a killer rabbit, a house of virgins, and a handful of rude Frenchmen.
Rated PG. 1 hr. 30 min.
Costumes encouraged: Come as a knight, peasant, monk, or your favorite absurd medieval character.
Breckenridge Rewind
In the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s, Lee Lucas captured the moments big and small all around Breckenridge. From the slopes to Ullrfest, pub crawls to bike races, Lucas and his cameras were there for everything. Lucas generously donated many of his films to Breckenridge History, where they are now housed in the Lee Lucas Collection. This summer, Breck Film has worked to take moments from these films and create a one-hour feature compilation. Thank you to all who contributed to this effort and who starred in this film!
Not Rated. 59 min.
Costumes encouraged: Break out your best vintage Breck—ski bums, throwback gear, or ’70s–’90s mountain style.
Rocky Horror Picture Show
In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O’Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.”
Rated R. 1 hr. 40 min.
Costumes encouraged: Go all out—corsets, lab coats, fishnets, and full Rocky Horror glam welcome.
BIFA DOUBLE FEATURE: Alice in Wonderland
Lewis Carroll’s beloved fantasy tale is brought to life in this Disney animated classic. When Alice (Kathryn Beaumont), a restless young British girl, falls down a rabbit hole, she enters a magical world. There she encounters an odd assortment of characters, including the grinning Cheshire Cat (Sterling Holloway) and the goofy Mad Hatter (Ed Wynn). When Alice ends up in the court of the tyrannical Queen of Hearts (Verna Felton), she must stay on the ruler’s good side — or risk losing her head.
Rated G. 1 hr. 13 min.
Costumes encouraged: Dress as goblins, dreamers, tea-party guests, or anything delightfully fantastical.
BIFA DOUBLE FEATURE: The Dark Side of the Rainbow
The Dark Side of the Rainbow—also known as Dark Side of Oz or The Wizard of Floyd—is the pairing of the 1973 Pink Floyd album The Dark Side of the Moon with the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. This produces moments of apparent synchronicity where the film and album appear to correspond.
Rated PG. 1 hr. 42 min.
The Shining
Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) becomes winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer’s block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack’s writing goes nowhere and Danny's visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel’s dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.
Rated R. 2 hr. 23 min.
Costumes encouraged: Channel eerie elegance—1970s winter wear, twins, writers, or Overlook Hotel vibes.
