Rainbow Butterfly Welcome Arch

The Rainbow Welcome Arch will be a big arch welcoming people to embark together in the journey of self discovery and building of community. It will represent the entrance into this space of exploration, as well as the different transitions or migrations that queer people go through to find themselves and step into the power of their full identity. This will be decorated with a big butterfly, representing both the transition of coming out and self embodiment as well as the physical journeys that LGBT immigrants take towards more accepting environments. The Rainbow element seeks to symbolize the sacredness and ancestral power of this journey, as many of our queer ancestors lived, thrived and fought so we could be who we are today. This arch will be big to symbolize how EVERYONE is welcome and belongs in the journey.

Rainbow Prayers of Connection - Activation Element

The Rainbow Prayers of Connection will consist of connections between the two arches embodied by colorful ropes that will unite these two entrances. The activation element will consist on a standing invitation for guests to write down wishes for the LGBTQ2S community in ribbons or pieces of fabric that they are then invited to tie in the ropes, creating a sort of wall of prayers that connects both of the arches and protects the sacred path of self discovery for the LGBTI2S community.

Embodiment Arch

The Embodiment Arch will represent the culmination of the journey where queer people are able to embody their full selves and come out into the world as full and happy humans that are held and celebrated by their community. It will have another butterfly to represent the final transition

ABOUT CAL DURAN

Cal Duran is an Indigenous, Native, and mixed-blood. Latinx, Manito, Mestizo, Chicanx, Indian Artist, and Arts Educator from Colorado. Art has been a portal to channel his indigenous ancestors, where he slips under an emotional spinning vortex of creation. The makers of his blood flow through him. He channels the artisans, craft-makers, mud-dwellers, star-makers, dream-weavers and earth-brothers and sisters, the ones who paved the way and forged the path. His work carries spirit and his truth is in everything he creates. He has roots that bridge India, Mexico and the natives of this land. He finds himself exploring parallels between his hybrid identities found in myth, remembrance and ritual.
