Beginner Metalsmithing: Copper
Showcase your individual style by transforming copper in this memorable and unique hands-on introductory class experience. Designed for beginners, this course covers essential techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering, texturing, and finishing metals such as copper and sterling silver. Based in artisanal craftsmanship, students will learn how to safely use hand tools and torches while creating their own unique jewelry or small metal objects. Through guided instruction and individual practice, you’ll complete a finished piece and gain the foundational skills needed for more advanced metalwork. No prior experience necessary — just bring your creativity!
What to know before registering
All levels are welcome. Supplies and reference materials are provided.
Safety is an extremely high priority in this class. Please wear natural fiber clothing (such as cotton or wool) and if possible, we encourage students with glasses to wear contact lenses.

Breck Create Members: $56
Non-members: $75 + $8 service fee
The cost of the class includes materials and tools.

What to expect:
Enameling
Showcase your individual style by transforming raw metal in this memorable and unique hands-on introductory class experience. A torch firing enamel class teaches you how to apply powdered glass to metal and melt it with a torch to create colorful, durable jewelry. Classes cover torch safety, cleaning and preparing the copper metal, applying different types of enamels, and design techniques like stenciling and sgraffito. Create a pendant using precut shapes or circles you will learn to cut yourself. A mask will be required, as well as, safe use of the enamels and torches. Through guided instruction and individual practice, you’ll complete a finished piece and gain the beginning skills needed for additional enameling classes. No prior experience necessary — just bring your creativity!
Stacking Rings
Learn to size, texture, bend, and solder 3 sterling silver ring bands to create a set of stacking rings. These bands could have an add stone set in another class.
