ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The untamed wilderness that surrounds Summit County invites a deeper connection to both the spirit within and a greater spirit that shapes and connects the natural world. We delve into the nature of spirit with a concert that honors the power of music to uplift, inspire, and connect us to something greater. The evening begins with Gabriela Ortiz’s Kauyumari, a vibrant work inspired by Huichol mythology. Named after a sacred blue deer that symbolizes transformation and spiritual guidance, this evocative piece transports listeners into a world of cultural and musical discovery. The program culminates with Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5, a towering masterpiece written during World War II that embodies optimism and perseverance. Prokofiev described it as “a hymn to free and happy humanity,” with its soaring melodies, powerful brass fanfares, and dynamic energy reflecting the indomitable spirit of the human race.
