Come visit Artist-in-Residence Aimee Kuiper during her Studio Open Doors!
Aimee Kuiper is an author and illustrator originally from the suburban wilds of Savage, Minnesota. Known for her vibrant character art, Aimee explores third-culture stories, celebrating diversity and bringing compelling narratives to life.
She has exhibited in galleries across the Midwest and East Coast, including The Yards Collective (Rochester, NY), Thorp Building (Minneapolis, MN), Johnson Gallery (St. Paul, MN), Packard Gallery (Vermillion, SD), and the Seneca Park Zoo Poetry Competition (Irondequoit, NY). Her work has also been featured in print publications such as Cicada Creative Magazine, Strictly Magazine, Residual Believers Magazine, and The Howling Press.
Aimee’s passion for community engagement is reflected in her teaching. She has led youth workshops at local art hubs, most recently at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. Her community-focused initiatives have been supported by the Charles M. Schulze Grant, a Minnesota State Arts Board Grant, and a residency at KinHouse in Paris, Tennessee.
In 2023, Aimee published This Is Your Story, a graphic novel series and accompanying workbook that empowers young artists to tell their own stories. Through her personal practice, she remains committed to making art accessible to all ages, abilities, and communities.

What To Expect
During her Breck Create residency, Aimee will write and illustrate two chapters in her ongoing, children’s graphic novel series: The Micaiah Monson Story. This series highlights the stories of Third Culture Kids through the magical adventure of a young girl searching for her mother.
You can find Aimee in her studio working with sustainable, kid-friendly materials such as biodegradable cardboard, recycled paper, crayons, colored pencils, and craft markers.
