ABOUT THE PROGRAM
In Summit County, people come to test their resilience, pushing their limits and discovering strength through every ascent and trial. This inspiring evening of music celebrates the strength and determination within us to overcome even the greatest of challenges. The concert opens with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture, a powerful prelude to his opera Fidelio. This overture tells the story of bravery, freedom, and perseverance, with dramatic contrasts and triumphant themes that mirror the resilience of its characters. The program continues with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, a profound and emotionally charged work composed in the aftermath of Stalin’s death. This symphony reflects the composer’s own resilience in the face of political oppression, with moments of brooding intensity giving way to defiant energy and ultimate victory.
